Let The Water Flow
A productive day today. Last week I mentioned that I had discovered there was water trapped somewhere in the rear wing of my car, and had booked it in to be investigated. Today was the day and I duly dropped it off this morning. “I’ll give you a call in a couple of days” said the service advisor…
As we’d had an early start, we took advantage and headed into Kendal to do some shopping. Both fridge and freezer were looking a bit empty so a full restock was required.
When I got a call from the dealer just after lunch, I assumed it would be because they’d discovered all sorts of nasties during their investigation. Not at all - it was all done and I could come and pick it up! It seems that there are drain holes in the area, which have special bungs in, to allow any water to drain away. But these bungs clog up easily, allowing water to build up. I’m guessing it’s a known problem because I was told there is a “service solution” laid down by BMW.
The very sophisticated solution is to take the bungs out and throw them away! Not really needed and any water that gets in will now drain out right away.
Buoyed up by this good news, we decided to do some more tidying in the garden before picking the car up. It’s the last green bin collection until February this week, so we gave the Acer and the Hydrangea a decent trim, filling the bin in the process. You can just see the newly trimmed Hydrangea in the background if you look through the car windows.
And the best part of the day was when I picked the car up - there was no charge! And they’d washed and vacuumed the car for me into the bargain! I suspect the technician knew exactly what the issue was and probably spent little more than 30 seconds pulling the bungs out. Still, it counts as good customer service in my book and it’s nice to have the car back - without the extra water.
I shouldn’t have any long term issues, but was advised to operate the windows now and then, just in case there was any corrosion on the regulators after their immersion in water.
And to try and park the car in warm sunlight whenever possible during the next couple of weeks, to help it fully dry out. That could be a bit trickier - this is the Lake District in winter, not known for dry, sunny days!
