Vienna
Back in the gym this morning after a week off. Had to work a bit harder, but could still manage everything. Then it was an early(ish) lunch before heading off to Manchester. No problems getting there and we were soon strolling around the Christmas Markets. I wasn’t overly impressed - it all seemed a bit “same old, same old” - and it was quite cold and showery. Though, thankfully, the wind had dropped away.
Just like Chester on Saturday, we couldn’t find anything to buy in the shops - what I wanted wasn’t available and what they had, I didn’t want!
A welcome break for tea in Wetherspoons, and then it was off the main event - Midge Ure at the Bridgewater Hall. Nice little support set from the India Electric Company, who then went off to get changed as they were also Midge’s backing band!
We were then treated to almost two hours of songs from Mr Ure’s long career. Mainly Ultravox and his solo stuff, granted, but we also had one each from Visage and the Rich Kids. There was a nod to his brief time as guitarist with Thin Lizzy and even one that he introduced as not being written, performed or produced by him, but he just liked it and wanted to play it!
My picture is of him belting out the song he is probably most famous for…
