A slice of pumpkin
was all it took to lure Scout
from his happy den

I was sipping my coffee as the sun began to pour into my kitchen. It's another lovely day coming on.
I met my neighbour by my front gate. We were both pushing our bins out onto the curb for collection. He asked me if I'd seen Scout, his African tortoise, this year. Since I hadn't, he used a piece of pumpkin to coax him out of his den and come along the driveway towards me.
Scout lives a rather privileged life in Yuma. G made him a very comfortable 'doghouse' that's insulated and has A/C for the summer and heat for the winter. I'm told Scout is 25 years old and could live to 100+. Since G is a senior, he's beginning to think he needs to plan for Scout should he no longer be able to care for him.
I had a good look at my palms. Should I have them removed? I know the birds enjoy them, but they make a mess and need so much pruning. They can be costly to maintain. I know G would be happy not to have to clean up after them as they drop their fruit on his side of the fence.
I'm home for the day and will make it a quiet one. Some play time with the art materials may be in order.
