Backblip: Northern Lights in Iceland

Here's some photos taken during our first full day in Iceland. In the evening our guides took us to one of the country's plane wrecks and we were lucky to have an Aurora show over the plane, at one point almost mimicking the shape of the fuselage.

The first extra was taken with the camera looking up near to the nose of the plane, showing lots of stars (I think part of the Milky Way is there but it doesn't show too well) as well as a gentle Aurora glow.

The second extra was taken in the morning: it's a view from the window of my hotel at Keflavik Airport. Beyond the car park and buildings you can see a plume of smoke arising from a distance behind the buildings on the left and blowing across to the right - it's coming from the volcano a few miles away and I like the way the orange glow from the rising sun shows through it.

The last extra is the church in the town of Selfoss in late afternoon light, with the partly frozen Ölfusà River in the foreground.

Ad always they're best viewed large.
