The Volcano
Thanks for everyone's good wishes about our cancelled flight yesterday. The replacement flight took off as arranged at about 3.30 this afternoon and only took a couple of hours. So we're now in the hotel at Keflavik airport for the night.
We did get a bit of a view of the volcano as we came in to land, but it's been very windy and getting a decent photo wasn't possible.
After a meal we were driven out in the minibus to try to find a vantage point for volcano photos - this is the best view we could get. The wind was so strong it was tricky to keep the tripods still. If you look large you can see lava being thrown up in the eruption. I think you'd need a helicopter to get a better view!
As we were taking the photos we spotted some aurora activity through the clouds - not dramatic but the extra shows what we saw.
Tomorrow we head off to our cabins on a farm near Selfoss, our base for the week.
PS Looks like there'll be a lot of backblips - it's full-on trip!!
