World Aids Day
This is the Scottish version of the Red Ribbon, the Tartan Ribbon, for World Aids Day I have an enamel lapel pin also, which I use to fix the ribbon without the fuss and fiddle of a safety pin.
The statistics for the disease are still frightening - it is estimated that in 2023 there were 39.9million people globally living with HIV: in that year approximately 630,000 people died with HIV-related causes: also in that year an estimated 1.3million people acquired HIV.
The theme for this year is 'Take the rights path: My health, my right; with rights at the centre, with communities in the lead, the world can end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
I started a new part-time job on 1st December 1988, the start of World Aids Day, testing low-risk specimens for HIV and have worn the ribbon each year since.
