Next spring
This tree died some time ago, was cut into a sculptural form by a local sculptor, dropped a limb in the wind, cut back again and now there is a foxglove growing in its hollow. This is a good area for foxgloves so it was lovely to see this sign of warmth to come.
Although I am enjoying autumn and looking forward to winter coming. On this gardening leave I am getting to spend more time at home and it’s rather nice. Haven’t done much gardening though.
Long walk in the morning in glorious sunshine with a bit of warmth in it and then went over to Mum’s for lunch and a catch up. Came back via Petersfield to pick up some things. Long chat with my agent (first time I have ever had one, very useful!)
In the evening we went over to East Meon to see films in the village hall. The first was Puffling, a film made by a former student of Vikram’s which was a good short documentary set on an island off Iceland where two young girls, one planning to leave the island, one to stay spend two weeks in the spring trying to rescuing the pufflings that get disorientated by the lights of the town and crash land in confusion. They weigh them and then take them to the coast to release them. It’s a practice that’s been going on since the town’s electric lights ruined the puffin’s breeding cycle. The main film was Wilding, the illustrated documentary of the creation of Knepp. Which was very beautiful but didn’t add anything to the book.
Glad I’ve seen it though.
