Portraits in Keswick

Thank you for your enthusiasm, comments and hearts for yesterday’s images.

It was bitterly cold this morning and I did not fancy any more icy road conditions, so I stayed in Keswick.

I went to the Keswick Boot Company to buy a lightweight pair of Aku boots, as advised by Mark and Anne-Marie when we were in Gairloch. I also bought a lovely pair of shoes to replace my tatty trainers.

It was very jolly in the tiny shop, with lots of people coming and going. The shop was opened 15 years ago and I remember visiting soon after that.

I bought socks elsewhere in a 60% off Black Friday sale, but only one pair was discounted. Have you seen the price of walking socks these days?!

This afternoon I walked to the Theatre by the Lake. There is an exhibition to celebrate the first 25 years. I sat and read the short book about this. Just brilliant to hear how they negotiated the pitfalls and stumbling blocks on the way.

There was a small exhibition of theatre memorabilia and a larger exhibition of portraits of people associated with the theatre, text about them and quotes from them. The local photographer is Amy Bateman.

I can highly recommend this. It is on until next April. I defy anyone to see the images and not start smiling back at the people in the portraits. Oddly enough there is nothing about the exhibition on Amy’s website but a few images, rather squashed, are on the Theatre by the Lake site.

My main image is the delightful young woman in the box office today. The extra of the owner of the Boot Company who is keen on product placement!
