Intruder alert ...
Not in our house, fortunately, but in the hedgehog feeding station! When I checked the wildlife camera this morning I saw that there had been a lot of visits overnight from a fox, who had repeatedly pushed his nose at various times into both the entrances of the feeding station, sniffing and clearly wanting to get inside. He then jumped into the flower bed behind the feeding station and I was amazed to see him pulling it towards him, leaving it in a precarious position hanging over the edge of the path.
He didn’t manage to get inside it, but when I investigated this morning this is what I found. One of the dishes was upside down – both were empty – and the feeding station was very skew-whiff. I righted it, and re-filled the dishes, and will be interested to see if the fox returns tonight to create further shenanigans.
Also, as an aside, I’m happy to report that Smithers and I first met exactly 55 years ago today. So of course we had the obligatory photoshoot this afternoon, sitting on the sofa, with a photo of us on our wedding day on the bookcase beside us. I put the camera on the tripod, set it to a 10 second timer delay and giggled a lot as I ran backwards and forwards from camera to sofa after pressing the shutter button.
