If you can't beat them...

Emergency blip.

I know it is only a few hours since I posted my last backblip but I want this one up before I forget the details.

I was booked in to SpaMedica for my second cataract op to arrive at 8:50.  This meant an early start for the drive down to Kendal. We arrived 10 minutes early.  I was called two minutes early, by coincidence the same nurse who had greeted me for my pre op assessment and for my first op. She went through all the rigmarole of which eye was being operated on, my DoB address etc.  Then put a granule of anaesthetic under my eye lid and drops to dilate my iris.  Then out into the corridor to wait.

The ward (four easy chairs) was full so we waited for a few minutes in the corridor.  The nurse took myself and another lady into the ward eventually.  I waited there while the two ahead of me were taken one at a time on the next stage.  Eventually I was called into a "pre theatre" room.  Here I once again recited my DoB, address, eye to be operated on etc.

Then a short wait and the surgeon came to talk to me.  Guess what he asked me?  You got it!  All the same information as if the purple arrow above my eye wasn't enough clue.  Then he removed the first anaesthetic and put in more in the form of a drop.  "Close your eyes and have a short nap we will call you soon" were his parting words.  I didn't have time for a nap even if I had felt able to.

Before the last op I opted for diazepam as I was frankly terrified.  This time having been through it before I felt OK without.  Mistake!  I must have been away with the fairies first time round.  This time I saw, felt and heard things I never noticed at the first op.  No pain then but strange noises, seeing a metal clip put onto my eye, feeling water running down  my cheek and at one point pressure.

The actual op took seven and a half minutes from my walking through the door til sitting up on the operating table.

From there across the corridor to the discharge nurse.  Here I recited the mantra of the day again!  We had a short discussion about my after care but having been told it all before that didn't take long.  I was given my "goodie bag" of eye drops information etc.  Then escorted to the main waiting room to meet up with Clickychick.  I had another round of Hot Chocolate and biscuits before leaving.

Next stop an ice cream parlour for the coffee and scone shown.  This time round things felt very different.  I don't know if it was lack of diazepam or the different surgeon but my eyes were running badly and stinging.  I was also very light sensitive so was wearing dark glasses.

I managed a couple of shots of the coffee with CC's phone.  I had left mine in Edinburgh and it hadn't been delivered when we left home.

Apologies for the long rant but I did want to remember the details and note them down before I forgot.

P.S.  For my own record the total time in SPaMedica was only around 1.5 hours
