St Aiden's church, Fourstones

St Aiden's in Fourstones is not made from tin, but red cedar. However, as a Victorian 'off the peg' place of worship, I thought that it would interest Tweedy and others who are watching as she adds to her blipped collection of tin tabernacles.

We drove past the church on our way to Bellingham to collect the hat that I left at Tea on the train yesterday afternoon. This diversion added time and mileage to our drive to Morpeth to meet my not-so-little sister and Mummy hazelh. However, the lovely weather, empty roads, and beautiful Northumbrian landscape made for an excellent drive under blue skies in the autumn sunshine.

We had a straightforward handover and final stretch of the journey back to Edinburgh with our precious cargo. Back at the house I raced to unpack, start the post-holiday laundry marathon, and help Mummy hazelh with her early evening routine of shower followed by dressing for dinner*.

Duties complete, I headed out again for a drink with LauraMuir followed by book group at ArcLight's flat.

As anticipated, it was a lovely evening. LauraMuir and I toasted wee Angus at Pickles on Broughton Street, then the pair of us walked together to ArcLight's.

We were a smaller gathering at book group than usual without Emma, Melissa and Winsford. This meant that most of the chat over supper was French-style, with the whole table contributing to the same conversation.

As for Orbital by Samantha Harvey, opinion was split. Christine and I didn't really like it, even though we appreciated the poetic writing and the amount of research that must have been devoted to presenting a realistic picture of life on a space station. The others were more enthusiastic. We were all grateful that it is a very short book.
