High Pressure Again

I’ve hitherto associated high pressure with sunshine and blue skies, but not any longer. The current high pressure has us languishing in gloom under grey skies and a cold dampness. Not that I knew this before sunrise as I marched down the High Street to the wonderful sound of an army brass band practising in front of the Mercat Cross. It was not only a bonus which put a spring in my step on my way to Princes Street to catch the bus to Porty  but to the other early rising tourists. I imagine it was a rehearsal for the Armistice events tomorrow. I caught them as they caught breath before giving it laldy again.

I seemed to be in my own at the beach for quite some time until out of the gloom came three other swimmers who had obviously been on a long swim on the other side of the groyne. Although the gloom was thick enough to be able to use the word ‘offing’ to describe the merging of sky and sea,  the water was calm and clear.

I did a little light food shopping during the morning but am not tempted to go out again  into what looks like Stygian gloom. It’s hard when you know the sun will very likely be shining brightly in Moray where daughter #1 and son #1 are at the moment.
