A wintery feel. I got the bus into the centre and I’m walking the long way round, by the water and over the bridge to go to see a film . When I first moved to Bristol these buildings were all empty derelict warehouses, but now they’re all restaurants, clubs, bars and arts venues.
I see ‘Small Things Like These’ based on the novella by Claire Keegan. Cillian Murphy plays a coal merchant who gradually realises the convent he delivers to is a Magdalen laundry, and witnesses some of the suffering of the girls. He can’t ignore it, as he is advised to do, because he was brought up himself by a single mother. He says very little, it’s all in his face, and I think it’s excellent.
Above is a couple of the bars just along from the Watershed arts centre. I especially liked the uplighting on the bricks. You can see a tiny bit of the big wheel in millennium Square - but some lights are missing.
