I suggested a trip to Cliffe Castle to 16yo as I felt we hadn’t been there for a while. It turned out we hadn’t been for more then five years, when the playground and a kickabout was still very much part of the visit agenda.

We started with lunch at the café and then reacquainted ourselves with the many and varied collections in the museum. The mineral collection is always a highlight, and I enjoy the stained glass room in part just because it’s a very effective way of displaying notable windows that have been rescued from local establishments.

The sequence pictured tells the story of Tristan and Iseult and is by the William Morris company.  The Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society has a detailed essay on these windows, and explains that a number of the Pre-Raphaelite circle (Rossetti, Burne-Jones, Ford Madox Brown, Arthur Hughes, Cal Prinsep and Morris himself)  responsible for  individual window designs

We had a walk back through the park and then a quick potter around Keighley before catching the train back.
