Lake Vyrnwy And The Giant Hand
We are safely home now after another epic journey.
Mrsfb suggested we returned via Lake Vyrnwy, in particular to see the giant hand, allegedly carved out of the remnants of the UK's tallest tree, a 63.7m Douglas Fir. A good idea I thought, but neither of us anticipated that Google maps would take us from Harlech via a 10 mile single track road, very narrow with very few passing places, lots of sheep and some very steep drops, and only one section with crash barriers. Luckily we only met one other vehicle coming the other way. We also had to drive through clouds! On the way we saw some super cloud inversions, at one point we were above and could see the treetops breaking through, but sadly there was nowhere to stop to get a photo. The lake though was still partly covered in cloud and I got a few shots, though none to really do it justice.
The giant hand was relegated to an extra. The best shot I got was with my phone. I realised afterwards that's probably because the phone does an HDR edit, even in RAW mode, which makes the hand more visible than it really is to the naked eye. The hand in my camera shots was not very distinct, though it did stand out more when I applied an HDR edit to them too.
It's good to be home, lots of catching up to be done now.
