Judo
Today was the first time CyclopsJnr went to a competitive judo event outside his own club, we went to Bonsai Kyoso "2" 2024 at Livingston.
This was an event aimed at kids that had limited competitive experience.
The event was divided into various categories and CyclopsJnr was in 'boys age 8-10' and within that the kids were competing against others of a similar weight and experience level. They had to weigh in when they arrived.
There was six kids from Edinburgh Judo competing in boys 8-10, and they were supported by an Edinburgh Judo coach.
There was perhaps 50 kids in the category and eight kids to a mat, with proper referees and electronic scoreboards and appropriate bowing and judo ceremony. CyclopsJnr had three matches of which he was the better competitor in one, was of a similar ability in one, and was totally whipped in one. This actually seems an ideal outcome for learning the first time! At the end each mat had a medal ceremony where they announced the names/clubs and the winning kids from each mat got gold and silver medals, and everyone else got bronze. CyclopsJnr really enjoyed it and was delighted with his bronze medal.
It was a very nice atmosphere for the kids.
Home on the train, and a wee celebratory hot chocolate in town before heading back.
