Oamaru

Anne’s turn to drive today from Lake Tepako down to Oamaru. This is as far as we go before heading back up the Island. There was some fabulous scenery on the road and Oamaru threw up some surprises. The first being the Steam Train, running especially today for its centenary. The town has a Victorian heritage precinct and SteamPunk is very big here.
Our accommodation here is really interesting, it’s a listed building, but with modern touches and the owners have thought of everything .
We headed out to see Penguins this evening, it was so lovely to see them come up the rocks from the sea and into their burrows. No photography is allowed as it scares them. We saw over 200.
