Twin Beaches Ghia

As long as the sun shines we will holiday! That was the decision a week ago and we are keeping to our word. Today we headed over to Ghia, ones of our nearest and dearest West Coast islands.

We have been several times to Ghia and never tire of going there. The catalyst this time was the Jolomo exhibition, which we really wanted to see. We saw his last exhibition a year ago and were keen to catch up with his most recent works of Ghia. We weren't disappointed, other than the price labels on the pictures. We would love to own one of his colourful works, but when prices increase in increments of a thousand pounds it makes you step back! However, the natural views of Ghia were free and in the warm sunshine looked splendid. I love comparing the colour of Jolomo's paintings with the scenery that provides the inspiration for his works. The bright colours of the flowers filled the road verges and beyond, while the small white houses and power lines were so reminiscent of his paintings. Cycling round Ghia on such a lovely day was like being enveloped in so many of his works, while having the added dimension of smell from the dry grasses, fragrant flowers and warm salty air. The experience can only add to viewing his pictures in future.

We settled on cycling to the very north of the island where we had a picnic at Twin Beaches, one of the nicest spots on the island. The sea was aquamarine and oh so tempting, but as Mrs B found out when she thought about a swim - still pretty cold. Even although about a dozen people were on the beach, we still managed to find a really secluded little spot for a post picnic snooze!

The plan was to go to Colonsay on Wednesday but looks like the weather might scupper it. Never mind, this holiday has been great while it has lasted!
