PS Waverley
Our holidays at home continue and today it was a trip on the PS Waverley from Campbeltown round Sanda Island and back. The weather was just perfect and the steamer packed with tourists from Glasgow and Largs who descended on Campbeltown and left plenty of room on board for us locals.
Last time I was on a paddle steamer was about 1965 when my father and I accompanied my big sister as she left home for the first time. We travelled "doon the watter" from the Broomielaw to Tarbert where my sister and her friend got the bus to Carradale. They were off to spend their first summer as senior school pupils working in Dunvalanree Guest House in Carradale. All a bit strange as the current owners are friends and it is now our favourite restaurant in the area.
Took umpteen blips during our sail and was really spoilt for choice. Oddly enough, I have settled for one when we were back on shore and the Waverley was reversing away from the harbour. There is something about the power of those big paddles which attract me to this shot!
