red-backed shrike

It was a drizzly day on St Mary's ( Scilly Isles), but we were out and about looking for rare birds. We found this juvenile red-backed shrike. The bird was some distance away, and it wasn't easy to get a shot with my lens, but it makes it to Blipfoto as a record shot. It was good to see the  bird, as it was the first time I'd seen a red-backed shrike.

Some of the other birds seen on this day:

ortolan bunting
short toed lark
dotterel
bar tailed godwit
greenshank
great egret
little egret
linnet
ringed plover
grey heron
song thrush
collared dove
shag
gannet
cormorant
stonechat
little tern
oyster catcher
sanderling
turnstone
kestrel
sparrowhawk
meadow pipit
And others, including the robin and blackbird.
