Inspiring skyline

With a long day ahead, I timed my departure from the flat this morning to match number 10 bus, which popped me up to the Scott monument. A walk across Waverley Bridge in crisp autumnal sunshine gave me my blip. I will never tire of the Edinburgh skyline.

The day went reasonably smoothly except there was a fire alarm at lunchtime. This not only partially ruined the first staff seminar of the year, although somehow the speaker managed to give his paper and receive a couple of questions, but it also left me very triggered indeed. The alarm came on, and then went off again, at which point people headed in, and then came on again, by which time I was really confused. I ended up going into my office and collecting my weekend bag and carrying it around with me for the rest of the day, to avoid the risk that I might have my weekend blown out of the water.

Onto the LNER train to Inverness. Definitely the most comfortable train to use on that route, although it's obviously a fairly late arrival. A pleasant journey with some work, and some chatting to a Scottish Water civil engineer sitting opposite, who kept pointing out curiosities like waste water treatment plants. Mr A waiting in Inverness, and we were home by 9pm. Now dark. Ah. Autumn. Winter approaches.
