Sally Mair - Loving life

Still going

Gosh it was cold this morning, 6° and sunny when I checked the temperature at 8am, what a change.
I had a church day today one way or another. I went to the Rectory first for its weekly mail and security check. Next it was time for our midweek communion service.
I was welcomed! - the boiler had a fault - the heating wasn't on in any case, but the boiler fault was a nuisance. I roped in the most active member of the congregation and we went down into the boiler house with the instructions. Success. We managed to restart it.
Working out how to use the church heating is on my to do list but I need a spare hour to do so and I just haven't found time. Hopefully either the weather will change or a miracle will happen and I'll find time before Sunday.
After the service, my next stop was a visit to our local nursing home to take communion to a resident who has been a member of our congregation since I was a child. She's suffering from a fairly severe hearing loss which makes conversation hard, but is fairly on the ball otherwise. She told me she checks the church magazine every month - with the aid of her magnifying glass - to see who is still alive! She noted* was amongst that number so was pleased to see me. I took her communion at home for the 18 months of our last vacancy. It was a very special little service for the two of us, we may have missed a few bits and rewritten a few others, but I don't think God would mind.
Home again just in time for some lunch and Ali's arrival with Bonnie. Bonnie tried out the playpen and seemed perfectly happy. I feel more able to leave the room briefly when I know a toddler is in a safe place. It won't be long now until she is crawling!
We'd finished lunch and Bonnie had gone for her nap when Colin got an email to say one of the loo seats was broken in the church hall - the after school club was just about to arrive.
I suggested we headed round to see what was needed so we could organise a speedy replacement. While there I also removed a rabbit carcass from the church vegetable garden, yuck! Not nice for the children to see though.
We removed the broken seat and headed down to Homebase for a replacement. We decided to go the whole hog and went back and replaced it. Happy after school club!
All told we were only out for less than an hour so that was pretty impressive.
Ali woke just after we got back and Bonnie a little later. I think they both felt better after a nap.
My blip today is some of my sweet peas which still seem to be surviving in spite of the drop in
temperature, the beans are still doing well too and my 3rd !!! courgette of the year is about 5 inches long. Not my best year for courgettes.
