Fitzbilly v The Weather
I think we outsmarted the weather today.
First thing, after a very full English breakfast, we called in to Wareham. The rain held off. The main blip is probably the standard Wareham view. I'm sure I have a pretty much identical film image from our previous visit in 1986! I will compare when we get home.
Then we drove on to Poole to have a mooch around the quay. We didn't want much for lunch (we have a 2 or 3 course dinner this evening) so found a café for cake and hot drinks. It had a great view over the quayside and I realised the boat in the first extra is the Brownsea Island ferry which featured in one of yesterday's extras. While we were sitting there I looked at the forecast which didn't look good so I booked tickets to see The Critic in the Poole cinema. Two for one with Meerkat Movies again, and much cheaper anyway than Cheltenham prices.
Another mooch around some shops and the quayside at Poole before we went back to the car to drive on to the cinema. The second extra is a sculpture (Sea Music by Sir Anthony Caro) and the third a piece of aquatic wall art that we liked.
Just as we got back to the car park the rain began - excellent timing on our part. We enjoyed the film, along with about 10 other people, and as we left the cinema car park the rain began again. It was quite torrential on the drive back to the hotel.
All in all a very satisfactory day, and we've still got dinner to come. Tomorrow the plan is to drive to Swanage and get the steam train to Corfe Castle. I hope the weather doesn't get even with us.
