Prostrate but surviving

I don’t know why I haven’t noticed this fallen beech tree before as Bertie and I do this walk fairly regularly. It must be quite a few years since the tree was brought down by a gale but a few roots must have remained anchored to provide water and nutrients and the tree continued to grow, albeit at a different angle.

Some children must have been here and saw an imaginative play area, leaving a couple of their toys behind (extra)

It has been rather wet for much of the day but there were plenty of indoor jobs to keep us occupied.
