Sintra
Today we got the train out to Sintra. A nice little town but with three castles and palaces to see it was very busy and quite touristy. The palaces are quite a way from the town and quite a climb to get to, but there is a local bus, the 434, which goes past all of them so you can hop on and hop off at each of them. We got the bus but did rather more hopping on than hopping off. To see all of the attractions would have taken most of the day and cost well over 100 Euros and frankly, we weren't too bothered to see inside them all. We decided we'd hop off at the Pena Palace high up in the woods but once we did, there was a long queue for tickets and another queue to get in, after which there was still quite a climb up to the palace itself. I took a photo from a distance and we hopped back on the bus back to town.
Around Lisbon and also Sintra there are hoards of tourist 'tuk-tuks' in various shapes and sizes. These two were passing the Pena Palace while we waited for the next bus. The faux vintage car is electric but looks very tinny; I hate to think what they would be like if they were rear-ended.
Another day to go here which we will probably spend around Lisbon itself. Last night we ate in the Time Out Market that I mentioned in my blip a couple of days ago and had a really good time. A great atmosphere, some good music being played and superb food at a very reasonable price. We'll probably have our last meal there again tomorrow.
