Sunshine, Showers and Addictions

There are addictions and there are my addictions.
My holiday addiction to cold water swimming every day took a knock this morning and I may need counselling. There I was all booted and costumed, slip ready for a 9am dip when the rain decided to put a spoke in my wheels (to mix metaphors). Swimming in the rain is a delight but getting dressed in the rain is not, and so I reluctantly but sensibly decided to cancel. Needless to say, once I was in the state of no return it cleared up a bit- too late!

A wet Stromness was not a particularly appealing option this morning and so I took the bus back to the high life in Kirkwall. There it was sunny and cheerful and bustling with hundreds of tourists off the Aida cruise ship docked in the harbour. I felt very much at home in the crowds!

The sun shone all the way home making the passing scenery unbelievably lovely - glowing golden fields of barley besides fresh green fields full of black cattle straying down to incredibly blue lochs with dark umber seaweed. The sun shone all the way to the outskirts of Stromness when the mist of a rain shower obscuring the Hoy Hills descended on the town leaving me to walk home in the rain.

The showers continue but I’m looking forward to blipper EllyJay visiting me this afternoon.

My blip was taken from the bus as it stopped to pick up passengers at Finstown
