Nicky and her Nikon

Brancaster Staithe

I had a lovely birthday dinner out last night with Gavin and Tommy, and it was not a late evening which was good. On the matter of birthdays - Adam turned 27 on the 27th, Kayakgirl's son turned 26 on the 26th, which got me thinking that this must be some special kind of birthday. I found it is called a Golden Birthday when your age matches your birth date of the month. I also found out that when your age agrees to the year you were born, so for example if you were born in 1945 and were turning 45, it is a Diamond Birthday - and by coincidence to Adam's Golden birthday, I have a Diamond birthday this year. There is also a Platinum birthday, which is when you turn the age of your birth year flipped, so for example if you were born in 1927 and you were turning 72. I found this very interesting.

It was an early start and we left home at 6.30am, and arrived to a sunny Norfolk with bright blue skies and no wind. This is the first time we have seen the changes made to the one bathroom, where the large cupboard on the landing which backed onto the family bathroom has now been converted into a shower - and a door was knocked through to the one bedroom to make it en suite. It is a perfect job and has worked out very well, we are delighted that the builder did such a great job. The mastic was also redone in all the bathrooms. We spent a while putting all the furniture back into place and rehanging pictures.

Gavin then got stuck into work while I took Xena for a long walk. It is busy here at the moment, I think many people have gone on holiday in this bank holiday week. This is the staithe at low tide.

We are now going to Cromer for one night as I am meeting a photographer and group at 5am. I was meeting her at the pier, but due to work on the beach its not ideal for photography so we are meeting at Happisburgh instead - a further +30 minute drive for me which means I will have a very early start in the morning. I almost don't feel like going but its too late to cancel, and I have tried to get onto a workshop with this photographer for a while now and never been successful, so a few hours in the morning with her is as good as it gets. I have followed her work for a few years now but she is always fully booked up. Last time I received an email saying she was running a workshop, I went straight on to the computer to book, and in the time I had clicked on the workshop and was filling in the details to pay it got sold out!

Adam and Anna arrive tonight, and the rest of the family arrive tomorrow morning.
