Buttertubs

Another day being tourists with Glenn and Malyn.

MrM drove us on a whistle-stop tour of the  Yorkshire Dales, mostly along narrow winding roads. Along the way we had views of the Three Peaks - Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough - and Malham Cove. We stopped for a picnic lunch on the moors near Malham, sheltering from the biting wind under the tailgate of the van. On to the Ribblehead Viaduct, where we stopped to walk up to the impressive structure. It was decidedly chilly by then, and I'm not sure our Aussi relatives were impressed with the British summer! After that, a quick visit to Hawes for refreshment and a wander round. Next, a drive over Buttertubs Pass, from where the views are spectacular. MrM and I have driven over it many times, but have never stopped before in the lay-by at the top of the pass, to look at the 'buttertubs', the deep limestone potholes that give the pass its name. Finally, a lovely drive from there to Richmond, where we walked around the town, and had an evening meal at Morro Lounge.

The trip back home was very much quicker, on A roads and motorways...
What a day!
