Sgwarnog: In the Field

My Bank Holiday excursion took me west for the third time in a week, as I headed across to Chorley to meet up with Sister #2 and family, and to watch Nephew #3 play in action for Chorley FC. This also gave me a complete set of sibling visits during the past week or so.

It was a 1pm kick off, and I set off early to allow for ‘eventualities’ in bank holiday travel.  Eventualities duly emerged at Preston where there were a couple of consecutive cancelled trains for the last leg of the journey, but I did still arrive in Chorley with plenty of time, so had a little potter about town while walking in the direction of the ground.

Chorley were hosting Southport in a National League North fixture, a reverse of a game that I’d seen almost exactly a year ago. This early in the season teams are still finding their feet as new players are bedded in, but it was to prove a successful afternoon for Chorley, with four set-piece goals to only one for Southport.

As always it was good to sit with family in the stand, including Great Nibling #3 who was able to cheer his Dad on, and join him on the pitch at the end. Today’s main image has Chorley preparing to defend a corner, with Adam (#2 on his shorts) keeping tabs on a Southport player in the foreground.

This was the final day of my last main block of summer leave.
