Marimurtra Botanic Gardens

Just a short walk this morning before breakfast and decided to turn back as we thought the heavens were going to open. Back to the hotel for breakfast and word puzzles.

We then decided to take advantage of the slightly duller day to walk along the front to the far end (not our end) and to the sailing club, fishing boat storage areas and boat bay. It was a new stretch for us and we’ve now a few interesting eating places. The sailing club restaurant looked particularly nice. We walked all the way back in the shade and to The Shack for lunch.

We’d booked tickets for a sunset tour of the botanic gardens, starting at 7pm, so after a bit of reading downtime and a rest in our room, we headed off up there. We’ve visited it on both holidays here so far, but this was going to be different - only 20 people, in the cooler part of the day, and much to our surprise, included parts of the park which is usually out of bounds to the public, e.g. the bamboo section. Sylvia, our guide, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and did the tour in Catalan - we think we understood about 90% of it! A lovely extra was seeing the sun on the rocks towards the end of the tour from one of the view points. All in all a lovely couple of hours and highly recommended - only on Thursday evenings and most likely just during the high season.

We walked back down from there (uphill would be difficult in the sun and a steep hill and so we got a taxi, just a 10 min ride), enjoying the views and stopped for a drink at another new find this year, Veracruz, a family-run restaurant. Bb had a tostada with anchovies, but I didn’t need anything to eat. We’d both clocked up over 18,000 steps by the end of the day!

Note: checked out reviews on the Sailing Club restaurant and it has very bad reviews!
