A new road
There has been some disruption over the last couple of days as the council has entirely re-surfaced the road. They closed it off which has created havoc with our various deliveries. And now there’s a lot of loose gravel on top so we don’t quite know if they are coming back to seal it.
First thing in the morning the garden was sodden, drenched, so there must have been a recent downpour. We didn’t hear anything overnight but read about thunderstorms elsewhere. I walked round and everything was bowed down. So I didn’t pick anything much. At least I don’t have to worry about the dahlia bed.
I had a long call with Noemi who is back from holiday and then a biz affairs catch up. Packing up a sandwich and finger salad I left at 1245 to go to Newbury to pick up Manda from the station. We set off to visit our friend AH but not being incredibly familiar with the SatNav in the mini I set the wrong postcode. Of course we were chatting too much to really notice until I started seeing signs for Goring, where my Granny lived. I know the area well but also know that it’s nowhere near AH. We pulled over and - one digit out in the first part of the code I re-calibrated and it added another 25 mins to the journey.
I haven’t seen seen AH for a year and his illness has progressed quite a lot, he has also broken his arm. It was lovely to sit, drink tea and eat carrot cake and catch up with each other.
After a couple of hours we set off on the slightly shorter trip back to Newbury and on to home. Arriving around 7.30 to water the pots and enjoy dinner outside. As predicted the dahlia bed is amazing - must pick some tomorrow. As night fell we watched the first episode of Fallout. Very entertaining, closer to its game roots than Last of Us but wittier.
