Blue jays

At this time of year the blue jays are odd looking birds. Blue jays lose all the feathers on their head when they molt. Two that were here this afternoon were bald, the other 2 had a full set of feathers on their head.

The cardinal family spent some time here too. The squirrel and a few chickadees were around too. I still hear the red headed vireo in the trees, but he stays well hidden. The male hummingbird has found the feeder, but so far he refuses to stay long enough for a photo. By the time I reach behind me for my camera, he is gone.

Getting to one of my jobs this summer has been a problem sometimes because of road construction. The last time we were there, the machinery had moved on. Today, it was back, and they were repaving the road that had just been patched. We spent 20 minutes in a lineup on the way there and another 20 minutes when we left.
