kahvaltı

At the time we never established the Turkish name for this breakfast spread. Subsequent research tells me that the official word is kahvaltı, which means ‘before coffee’.

I can confirm that it was a spectacular meal. Various forms of cheese and flatbread, walnuts and apricots, tomatoes, olives and cucumber, jams, pastes, honey and a random slice of ham. And I can also confirm a very strong Turkish coffee topped it off.

A magnificent start to another day in Istanbul, plotting where we were going to stroll, snack and sip on more coffee.
