Wendy's World

Gruffalo Cave

As local children know it.

We didn't need to be up and about early this morning so took it easy and, once up had a smashing Skype with Euan who was excitedly telling us about the family holiday in Wales.  Dino Park was a great hit, especially bringing the dinosaurs to life.

We had a quick lunchtime snack before the orienteering coverage from the World Sprint Championships in Edinburgh.  Today it was the Mixed Sprint Relay around the Heriot Watt University Campus and it was an exciting watch with gaffled legs and route choice decisions which could make or break a run.  GB was in the top 4 for the first three legs but finished in 7th place overall.

As it has been another dull, damp day and we had been in all morning, after the race concluded I took a walk up on to the moor to get some air.  It was very quiet out, I guess with the Men's Tennis Final followed by (apparently) some football.

Walking back down the lane at the end of our road I took out the Merlin app as there was an unfamiliar birdcall.  It was a green woodpecker, three in fact in a high tree on Paula and Dan's Smallholding.  I pointed my camera in the direction of their calling and managed a very blurry capture of the head of one.  I haven't seen one in the 'wild' before so it was a bit special and I wonder if it was a family group.

Back home it was time to prep for the roast chicken dinner, with roasted veg and Yorkshire Puddings of course.
