Family and friends across generations
We travelled about 100 km south to visit the Bolton clan. They were staying in their father's summer homestead for a few days. It's been many years since anyone lived here permanently so the place is very old-fashioned and also fairly run-down. However there are several houses and lots of bedrooms so it's a good place for several families to stay.
The last time we were here was in the mid 1980's, when we were called in to help plant thousands of trees by Kenneth, our friend Lis' husband (long since ex-husband). At that time Blaize was not even a thought, and here she is now, mum to little Ezra.
Lis was pregnant with Blaize's older sister, Sheyde, when we were all planting trees. Sheyde is now mum to Sol, featured in the extra with his dad Wills. In that picture Sol has just discovered safety glasses. He carefully put them on and then gently hit them with the rock he is holding. The safety glasses worked!
As always with these very young kids I am fascinated by the way they soak up knowledge and gain experience. Repeating what we say, twiddling knobs on a radio, hitting yourself with a stone. What an amazing thing a little human being is!
These are another international bunch we know. Grew up in Sweden, later moved to the UK. Lis still lives in the UK, Sheyde and family now live in Portugal, Blaize and family live in Canada. The third of Lis' kids Daniel stayed in the UK with his family. Between them the latest generation will grow up speaking Swedish, English, Portuguese, and French.
Who knows which country they will support when football is being played but we united to support England at the end of today, and were relieved and happy about the result.
