Drove over to Ravenshead and from there went with JR to Matlock Bath. The rain had started as i was driving over and it carried on all the way there. We parked at the station and walked up to the cable car station, getting wet in the process. The journey up to the Heights of Abraham took 7 minutes- i did it all with my eyes closed! It was very misty and still raining at the top, so we walked up to the entrance to the caverns. I was much happier underground! Interesting tour - about 40 minutes in all. Came out to less heavy rain and a warmer feel to the air. Had coffee and a scone and when we came out the mist had cleared though everything still felt very damp. Went down the second cavern which was smaller but with a more entertaining guide focusing on the lives of the miners and their families- the first tour was mainly about the geology. We were hoping to go for one of the local walks when we got out but everything was still very wet so we came home. Glad I went as it’s a localish attraction and I have never been , but once was enough. JR had an annual family pass which is expiring at the weekend so we took advantage of that, though she has been there numerous times.
