J the coal miner

Day 16. J birthday today and our last in the Arctic circle. Said goodbye to the crew after breakfast and got the bus into town from the ship. Dropped our bags off at the hotel we used the other week and had a wonder around the shops to get a few last minute things and had a look at the new polar bear exhibition in a plastic dome outside the main museum. Met up with J&A for lunch and said goodbye as they were on an earlier flight. J had booked a tour of one of the old coal mines in the afternoon which turned into great fun. The guide was very funny and informative, we got to crawl into the coal seam as they would have done in the day. It would have been back breaking work in terrible conditions considering it was all removed by hand, it opened in the 80’s and shut only a few years ago. Headed to the airport to drop the bags off, they have been booked through to Edinburgh so hopefully we will see them again but we did wait to make sure they didn’t come out at Oslo. Arrived at the hotel just before midnight.
