A study of modern life
A day of football: in fact, make that a weekend of football. Ottawacker Jr. had a tournament start today, with a godforsaken starting time (8:50am) and the usual team requirements of being there, ready to warm up, 30 minutes before. It’s out in the East End of the City, spread over two locations, so it meant a 6.50 wake up and leaving just after 7. Thankfully, the tournament is split into two days: the worst thing about these tournaments is usually the endless waiting around between matches, but this time, there are two today, then two tomorrow morning. Early starts, but no sacrificing of the whole weekend, so I am up for that.
First game was against the team from Russell that they lost to on Thursday (5-0). It was a better performance, and despite Ottawacker Jr. being taken out with a late tackle, the team had improved and only lost 2-0 this time. Had the ref had goal-line technology, it would have been 2-1, but surprisingly the Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League Boys’ U12 OCSL First Division teams don’t use Hawk-Eye. A quick break then a second game against the tournament organizers Gloucester Hornets ended 1-1.
Spent a fair bit of time talking to Will, which was pleasant, and then before I knew it we were heading home in time to watch the England match. England played a little better, but only really started to play once they went down a goal. This is where Jürgen Klopp has spoiled football for me: I sort of expect teams to play fast-paced, intelligent football now, not turgid tiki-taka shite (TTTS). Within two minutes of playing more quickly, England equalized, and then immediately reverted to the aforementioned TTTS. Ottawacker Jr. got up and left, and so did I, only finding out England had won later that afternoon.
Laundry, dinner, and then we settled down for a belated weekend movie: Jumanji, which I had never seen before, and came in a box of DVDs, Mitch had dropped off for us. Reasonably early night, as the second half of the tournament starts very early tomorrow morning.
