Look Out

The big news today is of course the result of the general election, and the transfer of power with all the warm words the opposing politicians have for one another. We take this for granted, but watching the US experience perhaps we shouldn’t.

I travelled into Manchester this morning where I had arranged to meet fellow blipper Ellisroger. We travelled clockwise around the city centre looking at many of the major regeneration sites. The image is a return to the padel courts I saw yesterday, featuring a sunny afternoon - itself worthy of note. The padel courts are a “meanwhile use” - jargon for land which is going to be developed but which in the interim can be used temporarily for something else.

We both agree that something the city centre lacks is good green space at its heart. The extra is part of the new Greengate Park in Salford’s part of the city centre. A lady was relaxing with her two small dogs. If dogs are an indicator of how successful regeneration and creation of place is, then Manchester/Salford are doing very well. We certainly had to avoid tripping over a lot of leads on our walk.

The most unusual office block is probably “Eden” in Salford with its wraparound planted exterior(extra). I’ve been assured it works and is maintainable long term.
