Street Lamp

The second day of July, and dressing for summer was not an option.  I dressed as I might for a day in December, th9ough I my coat was much thinner.  It was not warm and the office was freezing again.  I was reminiscing with a colleague that before covid the office would be full of people all generating body heat and would have been full of PCs, all generating heat.  There is none of that now.  A few people and a few laptops.

Work felt quieter today, and I made a start on a task that has been hanging over me for weeks.  I am very reluctant, but drafted out a structure today -  I just need to bite the bullet and get on with it now.  There was a gun salute from Edinburgh Castle his morning, presumably part of the formalities of Royal Week.

I popped out at lunchtime and the weather was rather grim.  I walked down by the parliament.  There were lots of well-dressed people around as there was an honours investiture ceremony at Holyrood House this morning and a garden party this afternoon.  Some of the ladies must have been absolutely frozen.  I did something I have never done before, in that I popped into Canongate Kirk for a quick look.  I’ve never been in it before.  I may stop off another time for a better look.

I was glad to leave the office this evening so I could get home to warm up.  I’m not sure I ever did warm up.  When I got off the bus, it was so cold I put my gloves on – gloves in July!!!!  Later when I walked to the supermarket for a couple of things, I also put my gloves on and wore a warm fleece.  I went to bed with a hot water bottle.

Another Edinburgh street light today, differed to yesterday’s. These two are in the courtyard at the Museum of Edinburgh.
