Our Italian adventure: travel to London

We are just about to leave the house this morning when M's phone pings. Its a text to say that our 1pm train from Edinburgh to London has been cancelled.
No they can't tell us when the next train will be or the cause of the delay.

Meanwhile the taxi booked to take us to Stirling station  failed to appear.I find a text to say driver is two minutes away and will be driving a silver Vauxhall . Clearly he is not.We have been waiting ten minutes.
What to do? A friend sees our plight and gives us a lift.

We take the next train to Edinburgh and sit in Waverley station along with hundreds and wait. Time passes.  

Yes we eventually make London on another train and check into our  pre-booked hotel.

They can't find the reservation.  Surely there has been some mistake? yes, we are booked into their budget hotel across the road. I did wonder why this 4 star hotel was so cheap.

PS An email from the train company just popped in. Could we complete their survey and tell us what we thought of their 1pm train service from Edinburgh to London?
There wasn't one.
