Lathyrus Odoratus

Chris Harrod

In the past I've always grown 'Charlie's Angel' as a pale blue sweet pea but this year I was very late in ordering seed and it was sold out. As an alternative I decided to try a variety called 'Chris Harrod' which was developed by Sydney Harrod at Cooltonagh in Londonderry and introduced to the market in 2008. Here it is in our kitchen. I'm very pleased with the results. It produces four or five large flowers per stem and stems are long, 40-50cm is typical. The scent is average for a Spencer sweet pea but the flowers seem to be reasonably long lasting and keep their colour well.
