Silver studded blue butterfly

It's been a fairly cloudy day here.  I decided to go to the gym for a sprint cycle class which was enjoyable and then headed back home to get ready for an early afternoon walk.

It was a walk with a small number of members from the walking group that were in search of the Silver studded blue butterfly.  It was led by an expert ecologist who had worked in this area for a number of years.  These butterflies are fairly rare and are only found in certain conditions, generally heathland.  The caterpillars and pupae have a very interesting close relationship with ants which also limits their habitat.  We slowly walked around several different areas searching for them and looking at other wild flowers or insects.  It was rather cool for them as they tend to like warm temperatures and the sun hadn't come out but we eventually found two males.  The main image show the underside of a male with its silver studs visible.  They are the small silver markings visible above the orange.  The extra shows the top wings.  They are fairly small butterflies.
We did see a few other butterflies including the Small Heath and a Skipper.  An interesting walk that demonstrated the need to create small nearby areas suitable for them to move to as the vegetation they are living around increases in size.  We ended up covering quite a large area on the walk.
