A day of mixed weather with stormy clouds and short rain spells. We parked near Stag Rock lighthouse intending to walk along the coast to Budle Bay. Unfortunately we took the wrong route at the start not realising we needed to walk across the golf course. Instead we walked down to the nearest bay and clambered around the headland just before the tide was coming in. We then climbed up into the large sand dunes following a small path but were unable to get down onto the next beach.  Eventually we found a footpath climbing up that we took sometime to scramble up. My friend has problems with her knee so was struggling. We could see a small group of people watching us from the bay below and at one point one of them started to walk our way. I had by then reached the top and put my camera bag down. I was then able to take some of my friends gear to make it easier for her. We made it and at the top was a wide footpath. We breathed a sigh of relief. The people who had watched us caught up with us and were relieved all was well. We thought we would continue along the main coastal path but it suddenly started to rain so we walked back to the car. We did get some nice shots though.

After this we headed for Spittal beach where we found the tide was still in. So we had lunch and a wander before going back down to the beach. The patterns, colours and shapes of the rock formations are spectacular. We soon forgot about our earlier adventures that day.
