The Spring Well at Horbling.........
.............was quite tricky to photograph to show it at it's best -would have looked better had the sun been shining - hope you can make head or tail of it!
Horbling is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It lies south-east of Sleaford, north-east of Grantham, and half a mile north of the village of Billingborough.
In the Domesday account the village is written as "Horbelinge". It consisted of 9 villagers, 8 freemen and one smallholder, land for 4 plough teams, a 20 acre meadow and a church. Before the conquest Thorkill the Dane was lord of the manor and then in 1086, lordship was transferred to Walter D'Aincourt
This spring well rises 150 yards north from the church on Spring Lane and is described as "a deep open cistern feeding water to three adjacent troughs". The well, paid for by the Constables of Horbling, dates from 1711. It has an added 1981 inscription commemorating the marriage of the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer, and is Grade II* listed. I wonder, if way back, the water was fit to drink - as it comes from a spring, perhaps it was.
Village population recorded in the 2001 census was 397 in 162 households but it has grown somewhat in the last few years with quite a lot of new property having been built.
The weather has changed a lot from yesterday - very grey and cloudy and temperature reading only 59 deg F. at the moment but the sun is trying hard to break through.
Anni is back in the UK tomorrow - hope she has a good and safe flight.
Have a pleasant day everyone whatever the weather.
