Royal Highland Show - day 1

The busiest day? Certainly the canoes were busy. At the end of the day Jon had sent out the canoes 84 times, with a total of 212 people - mostly school groups. So only 3 capsizes out of 84 wasn’t bad!

I got up at 7, then got on and lit a fire. Cooked bacon and we had it in rolls with tea.

We have been very lucky with the weather. Another dry and mostly warm day. Occasionally it clouded over, but just right for us.

We have the small countryside arena behind us with a repeated programme over the 4 days. One which hasn’t been back for a while were Elite Falconry. It was great to see the birds flying. A real skill to know they will come back. In fact one small falcon did go off and hide because it was being tormented by seagulls. There were kites, eagles and even 2 vultures. Hard to get a photo in flight with my phone.

TV cameras turned up to interview Dave for Highland TV I think. They filmed my hands chiseling out a shrink pot. Might this be the start of a new career as my hands become famous?

Cooked a curry for dinner. Tomorrow I hope to have a walk around the show. It’s vast and takes hours, so as I’m on tea/coffee/lunch/dinner duty there is never a good time to escape..

Not done any writing. Maybe tomorrow…
