VINDOLANDA

We've had a bit of Culture today at the extraordinary historic Roman Village and Fort near Hexham.  The Museum was spectacular wth lots of amazing archeological finds beautifully displayed.  The most famous of which were the Writing Tablets and a complete skeleton of a child age 8-11 years. Date of find site: AD 213-220.  Height: 4.5 ft?  The sex was not able to be determined but more likely to be a girl. Other scientific data:  lead isotope analysis on teeth showed that this was a person living in the Mediterranean till the age of 7. All very fascinating.

As you walk around the site there are many posts with descriptions in many languages to be heard by pressing a button.  We saw the archaeologists hard at work with their digging in the hope of recovering even more precious finds.

A most welcome cuppa was then had in the lovely rooftop cafe. So glad we visited this incredible place and thoroughly enjoyed our History lessons.

And .....  the sun  shone ALL day ......
Torrential downpours all evening though.

Extras. Fort collage.  The skeleton
