Glasgow, an edgy city

Photo: Here’s a 14-year-old with a big voice and big ambitions.
I met Carlin busking in Buchanan St. this afternoon. She hopes to join the Royal Scottish Conservatoire next year and train to become a professional singer.

Meanwhile at the other end of Buchanan St I catch a glimpse of the edgy side of the city, a city of contrasts.  I am standing at the corner of Mitchell St, having collected some clothes from a Latvian dressmaker, and a man roars past in a black Ferrari causing all heads to turn. A few yards from me a group of young drug addicts sit in a doorway with one searching the ground for needles.
Further up the road a middle-aged well-dressed man photographs a parked yellow McLaren car.  (Estimated cost £1. million ).
He is watched by a young homeless guy hunched yards in a doorway.
It’s with  sense of relief , and guilt, I step on the train for home , and the peace of Bridge of Allan.
