Rolling Sussex countryside

The day worked out well in the end. We intended to visit Great Dixter to see the gardens created by Christopher Lloyd this morning. Nearly there we realised that we’d forgotten the two for one ticket for the entry. In the end it didn’t matter as when we arrived the gardens are closed on Mondays.

So, after lunch and a coffee we set out on a delightful circular walk from Northiam across the rolling fields and woods of East Sussex in fine weather, warm sunshine and a cooling breeze. Often, we could hear nothing, not a sound.

Despite there being lots of meadows and woodlands birds, insects and butterflies were in short supply. Very concerning. We did see a red admiral though
