Kato Chora

It’s another very hot day ie higher than usual for this area, up to 29C. We took a taxi to Mylopotamos and started the day with espressos in the taverna in the square. It’s very shady being situated under large plane trees by a spring or stream with colourful flowers around. Once we were ready we headed out on the water mill trail. There was a large waterfall here several years ago which has dried up but we followed the path along the stream   We saw several abandoned buildings and decided to retrace our steps as the path along the edge narrowed and we had seen sufficient.

We the walked along the road to Kato Chora. It’s an abandoned Venetian fortress with a number of Byzantine churches and dwellings set on the edge of a steep ravine. It’s a very interesting sight and was used more as protection for local people than a military fortress.

We returned to the taverna under the plane trees for lunch and then caught our taxi back home. We continued our evening routine of pre dinner drinks and a meal with our friends. A lovely day.
